My name is Vicki Wells and I am the Labour Candidate in the Marine Ward by-election on Thursday 2nd December.

I am proud to be standing in this by-election for Worthing Borough Council and I hope that by Thursday 2nd of December you will have decided to give me your vote so I can join my friend Dr Beccy Cooper in representing Marine Ward.

So what do you need to know about me? Well, I grew up in Lancing and I have lived in Worthing for 13 years. Before we had our two bright, creative and wonderful daughters, we lived and worked in London.

We moved back to Worthing to be nearer to my family, the Downs and the sea. The local schools are fantastic and we were excited to raise our expanding family here. We are so glad we did because our street is possibly the friendliest place you could live!

We are a mixed race, Anglo-Indian family. The Indian side are from Kerala which, like Sussex is in the south of the country. Having Keralan in-laws means lots of delicious food and festivals. The British side contribute Sunday lunch and walks – and lots of political debate!

I work at Worthing Theatres and Museum as the Projects and Engagement Officer. However I am a former BBC Science Producer – I especially love astronomy (the dark skies of the South Downs National Park are excellent for star gazers like me). I had the enormous privilege to work on The Sky at Night with Sir Patrick Moore. Highlights included meeting Apollo 11 legend Buzz Aldrin, Jeff Hoffman – who repaired the Hubble Space Telescope during a space walk – and Stephen Hawking for a special program celebrating his 60th birthday.

I am an energetic, enthusiastic and friendly person who enjoys running, cycling and exploring the South Downs, finding fossils and talking to people.
