According to the RSPCA’s Kindness Index, 9 out of 10 people agree that animal welfare is an important issue to address, and 83% of people want and expect our governments and politicians – at all levels, including local government, to take action.

There are many pressing issues facing animals today, from irresponsible ownership and cruelty, to the reckless abandon of litter in our streets, local nature, and precious green spaces.

The RSPCA has put together a manifesto of key animal welfare promises, and these commitments are vital in ensuring our area is kind, compassionate and responsible towards animals. Worthing’s Labour candidates for 2024 are making this pledge to animals.

The RSPCA outlines the following asks for local councillors:

  1. Promote responsible pet ownership, fostering a community that values compassion and responsibility.
  2. Protect wildlife and natural habitats by tackling the scourge of litter and advocating for wildlife welfare.
  3. Champion high-welfare food procurement, endorsing ethical farming practices for a sustainable food supply.
  4. Actively support animal welfare causes, advocating for responsible pet care and compassionate treatment.
  5. Commit to a unified approach, spearheading animal welfare forums for collaboration and policy development.

We believe that this pledge is essential in protecting and prioritising animal welfare in our community, making it a kinder place to live for animals and humans. The future of animal welfare depends on all of us, and we are proud to be a voice for animals in our local community.
