Today we remember all who have fallen in conflicts since the first world war and give thanks to those who came home, often with horrendous injuries both internal and external.

While the immense loss occurred in war sometimes overshadows it’s impact on a family or a community on the 30th of June 2016 in the Battle of Boar’s Head in less than five hours the three Southdowns battalions of the Royal Sussex Regiment lost 366 men including twelve sets of brothers, including three in one family with another thousand men injured or taken prisoner. The battle became known as The Day Sussex Died.

A memorial to the battle can be found in Beach House Park in Worthing.
