Councillor Margaret Howard was first elected in May, 2018 and has been busy helping local residents ever since. She was re-elected on 5 May 2022.

A former teacher of Physics and Chemistry, she has been a Student Mentor and worked in Local Government, Housing Rebates and Arrears. She now serves on Licensing Committee and is a member of the shadow Customer Services portfolio team. This includes Housing, Homelessness, Revenues and Benefits.

Margaret says “We hope to rename the portfolio ‘Citizens Support’ and overhaul the system so that we can provide more homes for our residents. I intend  to represent those who, through no fault of their own, can’t stand up for themselves. I can be a voice for those who are vulnerable, and have a hand in changing policy, standing up to injustice in the system.”

Margaret volunteers for the Samaritans, is local coordinator of Acorn Community Union and set up the Broadwater Support Group so that local residents could help each other as we get through difficult times together. She now wants to setup a Community hub and is looking for premises to offer ‘wraparound’ support.
