Ödül made Worthing her home nine years ago after a life of study and work in three different continents and up and down England. She reckons that of course the life by the sea has huge appeal but what makes our town really special is the welcoming, diverse community and a forward-looking energy.

Ödül is a Professor of Work and Employment at the University of Sussex and occasional not- for-profit market trader. She has worked with students and colleagues from around the world for nearly three decades. She has also collaborated with a wide range of organizations to understand and improve the conditions and experiences of work for a variety of workers from supermarket shopfloor staff to vehicle repair apprentices, independent traders, highly-specialist digital workers, employees of multinationals and many others. She knows that good jobs are key for thriving towns and recognises the many ways a Council can help create and sustain these.

She is committed to working with local stakeholders and especially our educational institutions, local businesses and the community to promote good green jobs for an increasingly robust local economy. She is also dedicated to promoting a welcoming, inclusive and diverse Worthing for residents from all backgrounds.
